Frieze London, parrasch heijnen

July 29, 2024

At Frieze London 2024, parrasch heijnen presents a dual exhibition that explores the cultural memory of communities and lands

For Smoke at Frieze London 2024, parrasch heijnen presents a cross-generation exhibition of new adobe – a building material made from earth and organic materials – and soot-based works by Christine Howard Sandoval in conjunction with select mixed media sculptures by Linda Vallejo from the 1980s and early ‘90s. Howard Sandoval’s work explores contested places, such as the historic Native and Hispanic waterways of northern New Mexico, the Gowanus Canal, a Superfund site in New York and an interfacing suburban wildland in Colorado. Vallejo reflects on cultural memory, knowledge and her experiences of Latinx, Chicanx and American Indigenous culture and communities.

Digitized ephemera from exhibitions, publications, and special projects, hundreds of art images with details, and a video library.
